Pilates Vol. 3

Alright, but can you actually lose weight with Pilates?

History, focus, and principles are all well and good, but someone please tell me if you can lose weight with Pilates? Well, that's the million-dollar question.

The short answer is no, not directly. Just like with any other sport. I'm sorry if that's not what you expected! The truth is either simpler or more complex, depending on how you look at it. 😊

TDEE - total daily energy expenditure

You'll lose weight when you consume fewer calories than you burn (calorie deficit). Consistently. However, exercise helps increase calorie expenditure, but more importantly, it's about improving your health. Think of it as a private insurance policy that doesn't cost a fortune and is always accessible. Additionally, with exercise, combined with dietary and lifestyle changes, you can increase muscle mass, boost your energy levels, become more active, and kickstart your journey to change. 😊

So, why choose Pilates then?

If shaping your body is your goal, Pilates can be one of the best choices for muscle toning due to its targeted, focused movements. Its coordinated exercises engage multiple muscle groups simultaneously, which can effectively contribute to muscle mass development when performed correctly. If you gradually increase repetitions or add weights to the exercises, progress will be continuous.

Moreover, Pilates is gentle on the joints and places a strong emphasis on core muscles. Anyone can start and practice it, regardless of age, gender, or fitness level. It can also improve joint mobility because during each class, we move the joints through their full range of motion.

I teach Mat Pilates, with 8-10 repetitions per exercise, making the classes diverse. We perform these exercises to pleasant music, guaranteeing that after 60 minutes, you'll leave the studio feeling pleasantly tired and refreshed. And if you feel like Pilates isn't your cup of tea, that's perfectly fine too. Come and try it out to see for yourself! 😊
